Thanks, Mr. Will. Only four years too late.

It seems conservative commentator George Will has come an epiphany of sorts.  In his column today Will declares, without a hint of irony, that it if it was socialism McCain/Palin were trying to avoid, they were in the wrong party.

"...while Republicans -- whose prescription drug entitlement is the largest expansion of the welfare state since President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society gave birth to Medicare in 1965; a majority of whom in Congress supported a lavish farm bill at a time of record profits for the less than 2 percent of the American people-cum-corporations who farm -- and their administration were partially nationalizing the banking system, putting Detroit on the dole and looking around to see if some bit of what is smilingly called "the private sector" has

President-Elect’s Radio Address to the Nation

President-Elect Barack Obama addressed the nation this morning, focusing on the economic crisis and help for the middle class.   Listen here. Here's a full transcript: On Tuesday, Americans stood in lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen. It didn’t matter who they were or where they came from; what they looked like or what party they belonged to – they came out and cast their ballot because they believed that in this country, our destiny is not written for us, but by us. We should all take pride in the fact that we once again displayed for the world the power of our democracy, and reaffirmed the great American ideal that this is a nation where anything is possible. This week, I spoke with… Continue reading

Yeah… That’s what happened! Conservatives on why they lost

I am ready to get out a can of whup'ass and go to town on Tony Perkins, from the Family Research Council. In an article I read on CNN today, Tony Perkins, after meeting with a bunch of conservatives, stated that Republicans lost because of Moderates. Moderates can never beat conservatives, he said. Moderates pulled them away from their base. They are definitely NOT out of touch, they have to get back to basics. It's obvious because the ban on gay marriage passed everywhere, so that, my friends is an ideological mandate to continue going further right. It's the moderate's fault? Are you kidding me? You lost because you have spun out of control. Your base has slid further… Continue reading

President-Elect Obama’s first major appointment: Rahm Emanuel

Yesterday, Rahm Emanuel was offered and accepted the position for White House Chief of Staff. Emanuel was a top aide to former President Clinton and has a lot of White House experience. He has a personal relationship with the Obamas. He has been credited as a brilliant strategic thinker, and many have hailed him as the person who knows how to get things done. Many agree that Emanuel is a pragmatist, knows the art of compromise and is a great non-partisan choice. House Minority leader, Republican, John Boehner considers Emanuel a partisan fighter, stating it was an ironic choice for Obama because he has promised change, and to govern from the center. In Fortune Magazine, Tom Cole of Oklahoma warned republicans of Emanuel's ferocity, calling him dangerous and… Continue reading

The Obama Supreme Court

Included in the benefits of an Obama victory is the very strong possibility that he will be filling as many as three seats.  It is an opportunity to have progressive views on the courts for years to come.  Personally, I think Hillary Clinton would make a fantastic Supreme Court Justice…

A return to common sense.

A return to common sense.

Open Thread

I'm tense.  Only a few hours before we start seeing results.  The right wing blogs are virtually silent, and the left wing blogs are stuffed with people just like me.  Looking for any nugget of new info that will provide an insight into what's happening on the ground. I am a pacer by nature, I am in overdrive right now.  I'm going to wear out my shoes. Any voter stories?…

Yes We Can!

Yes we can!!! Get to the polls and work it. *sniffle*

Twas the night before the election…

Today was a ridiculously crazy day and I barely had time to think about the looming election tomorrow. I was busy moving into a new desk, getting organized for the week and meeting my new boss. I didn't really even think about the election until the afternoon when I heard about Obama's grandmother's passing. I was so sad to hear that she didn't get to see her grandson become the president of the United States. But now, as I watch Saturday Night Live (and a million political ads), I'm thinking about tomorrow. I'm thinking about my daughter sleeping in the next room. About how her father and I have such big dreams for her. About how this election could change all our lives. I have been feeling like our family is… Continue reading

November 4, 2008

First, sorry Mountain Lover for stepping on your post. You point about Row v. Wade is very important, common sense about reproductive rights hangs in the balance. Vote, dammit! But, it is the night before the election, and since this is my site I figured I would engage in a little self indulgent venting. For no other reason other than I would like to sleep for at least 15 minutes tonight. In fewer than 24 hours, there is a good chance that we will know whether Barack Obama will be our next president. Obama is in the lead, the momentum is clearly his. Common sense dictates that Obama will win and we begin to heal our country after eight years of infection. Sadly, we have not… Continue reading
